The path of the entrepreneur is not the easy one. It is not the path less taken and for a reason. And when we are called to this path, we are fortunate, indeed.
The fortunate piece lies not in the challenges. Not directly, anyway. But in the learning and growth and unlimited potential that this road provides. Those challenges are like exercises that develop us as businesspeople, for sure, and even further and perhaps most importantly, those exercises develop us as individuals.
It is so easy to hide in a company job. I should know. I did it for decades. It is not so easy to do as an entrepreneur. In fact, it is death to your business if you do. The more you can be yourself and bring out your unique light, the more you will attract those that you are here to serve. The more you “blend in” the more competition you will have. The more you try to mirror what others are doing, the less likely you are to really make your mark.
I am not saying to reinvent the wheel on everything. Far from it! Success does leave clues and we can learn much more quickly and efficiently by following those clues. Business is science. And it is also art.
Get yourself a mentor that understands this and encourages this. Get yourself some support to find and promote your unique offer. Otherwise, it is a long ride on the sea of mediocrity.

I have worked from home for many years. Even most of my years in corporate – make that all but part of a single year, I had a home office rather than going to an office every day.
One of the first areas I had to address when I started to consciously get my life in order was my health. While I have always been what most would consider “health-conscious” I really had some big holes in how I cared for my body and overall well-being. For years I had been kind of skinny-fat in regards to my health.
I have a confession to make. I used to write every day, as some of you know. It began to feel like a chore rather than a joy. So I stopped. I am glad I did.
Writing here on my last day in LA for this trip and this has been my office. It has been an amazing 6 ½ days. My trip was supposed to be closer to 3 ½ but I decided to stay a few more to soak in this powerful creative vibe. I have always been drawn to this area – since my first visit when I was 8 years old.
A few years ago I was living the American dream. I had a high paying job, the house, the cars, the vacations, the fat nest egg. I don’t know that it was ever enough. I don’t think I ever kicked back and fully breathed it all in with pure joy in the moment. Except on vacation. There were fleeting moments when I was on the water somewhere when I could really drink it all in.
I have been thinking more about culture detox and corporate detox as I talk with my clients about this. How our environments, including and especially our work environments, have affected us deeply and physically. I don’t think we realize how real of a phenomenon this is. And how common it is. That “old baggage,” those old wounds, hurts, rejections, resentments, anger, etc. may still be lingering in your subconscious and in your body even if you have left that position or company.
Vitacost is out of my protein powder. They have been for several weeks. Actually, they had it and then sold out again.
